Flicks Deluxe

Deluxe-1

A night at the movies in Christchurch just got classier with the opening of the new Deluxe Cinemas at The Tannery. State-of-the-art boutique theatres designed with the discerning cinemaphile in mind, the new venue comes to us from the Stewart family, the brains trust behind Alice Cinematheque (nee In Videoland), the film library and Egyptian-themed mini-picture-palace that’s a city institution.

These guys know movies, and it shows in their new venture; both the 32 seat and larger 54 seat auditoriums at the new Deluxe have been designed with careful consideration of sightlines, digital projection and a rich Dolby sound experience, and décor, lighting and climate control are all harmonised to create a supremely comfortable, sophisticated and relaxed atmosphere.

Deluxe-3

Rejecting modern multiplex mayhem for a return to the more romantic era of movie-going, Deluxe is ditching popcorn for hand-rolled ice creams, gourmet hot nuts, cheese boards from Canterbury Cheesemongers, fresh coffee, character teas, craft beers and a carefully assembled wine list. Settle back with your libation of choice and enjoy the selected line-up of festival films, foreign films, classic movies, documentaries, award-winners and those select quality mainstream releases that make the grade! (Sorry, Adam Sandler.)

Deluxe-4

With a free Cinema Club membership offering special deals, regular special events such as Girls Night Out and Morning Tea Sessions, live broadcasts of New York’s Met Opera and the UK’s National Theatre productions and movie-and-meal deals from The Tannery’s Blue Smoke and The Brewery available, Deluxe is set to make going to the movies an experience again.
