In The Cut

Taking out the 2014 DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarship and tipped as Kiwi fashion’s next Karen Walker, Christchurch’s Georgia Currie is cutting up the fashion scene with her signature label Georgia Alice.

Establishing herself as New Zealand’s top emerging fashion exporter, Georgia’s coveted label is dedicated to cool, classic and creative pieces, and she’s quickly becoming the crush-worthy go-to designer among New Zealand’s ‘it girls’. Having featured in Australian Vogue, Australian Elle, Russh, Oyster and on international blog The Man Repeller Georgia’s handiwork can be found lining the racks at 24 stockists worldwide, including outlets in New York, LA, and right here in Christchurch at Infinite Definite.

Graduating in 2011 from CPIT with a diploma in fashion technology and design, Georgia was spurred on after winning the Westpac Young Designer Award (see a pattern?) in her graduation year before hightailing it up to Auckland and launching the label. Identifying a gap in the market, she went about carving out a label known for its strong contours and man-style aesthetic.

So where to next on the stratospheric rise of this bright young thing? “I would love to have an internationally recognised brand, she says. “I plan on taking it to the ends of the earth!”
