The Designer Touch
Walk into Interiors by Lume and you could be forgiven for thinking you’ve stepped onto the set of a high-end lifestyle magazine shoot.
Eschewing the dull, ordinary and design-by-rote, interior designer and owner Melissa Merrin has curated an exquisite collection of the rare and covetous.
No surprises then that the boutique interior design studio and neighbouring showroom have become the first port of call for those looking for something a little different – indeed, special – and a welcome addition to the village-like atmosphere of Strowan shopping centre’s bustling Normans Road retail hub.
In a testament to Melissa's design prowess, the showroom is home to one of the city’s finest selections of international design pieces and furnishings, many of which are exclusive to the store, and a case study in opulence.
Rocking a safari luxe aesthetic, the showroom elegantly blends tactile Armadillo & Co rugs and Bandini cushions with natural, wooden Jute bar stools and South Africa’s famed Wonki Ware hand-crafted designer dinner ware.
It’s obvious that Melissa has an exceptional eye for design and a flair for juxtaposing and finding creative uses for ordinary, albeit exotic, items as feathered African JuJu Hats look perfectly at home as wall art alongside statement pieces including up-and-coming Filipino designer Ito Kish’s stunning hand-woven Basilisa Armoire and the larger-than-life floral majesty of the Italian Fandango Light Pendant.
It’s all about ‘creating great spaces’, the company’s tagline, says Melissa. And with her husband Jeff helming Lume Design, specialists in architectural lighting and interiors, between them, the pair offer a unique, one-stop-shop where complementary styles flawlessly blend to create partial, or complete, interior solutions.Interiors by Lume
