Paint It Black

Palazzo Kitchens & Appliances kitchen designer Emily Erickson shares why black is so hot right now.

Palazzo-black

After a decade of white dominating the world of kitchen design, another timeless colour is making a comeback – black. Renowned for being sophisticated and sexy, black has emerged as a hot kitchen trend stronger than ever this season.

From statement pieces to subtle hints, you are able to create that timeless combination with an über chic look. While I understand the reason for black kitchens being avoided in the past  – being notoriously known to mark and show smudges – the kitchen market has finally pushed aside all the myths regarding this finish.

Gone are the days of impossible-to-clean black cabinets! Although the combination of black and white continues to be strong together – for example, as a mix between the lower cabinets and upper cabinets – there are also other ways to bring black into your kitchen this year.

Now’s your chance to be creative and bold, with statement pieces such as a black stove, ideally for a country or modern-rustic kitchen; or accessorise with black tap and sink ware to suit any style. We are all aware that tastes and seasons change, but a black kitchen is a seamless, classic design that will last through the ages.
