New For Autumn

Get your bearings with an update on who's doing what – and where – in Christchurch City.

Look out for much-loved pizzeria and bar Winnie Bagoes returning to the central city. The new location is in Madras Street and we can’t wait to get there for after-work drinks! Many exciting developments from The Colombo! An authentic Mexican joint by the name of El Cantina and a branch of the Belgium Beer Café are now open, and Academy Gold Cinema will be opening soon – beer and mussels, or maybe beer and nachos, followed by a movie, sounds like a great night to us!

Having been bejewelling Christchurch locals for 133 years, it’s great to see Kennett reopen as Kennett Crafted Jewels: the new store is in the Sydenham Quarter and is the place to find that perfect NZ-designed wedding or engagement ring. Those expecting a new addition to their families will be happy to know that EGG Maternity has moved from Normans Road, Strowan, to The Colombo.

If you’ve been watching the copper-façade building go up on the corner of Papanui Road and Aikmans Road in Merivale, you’ll probably know that Briarwood has now opened here – if you haven’t, get yourself down there immediately for gorgeous New Zealand-designed shoes and bags. Right next-door is L’Occitane, perfectly placed for a fragrant fix.

Further west, on the corner of Fendalton Road and Clyde Road, The Fitting Room is now open, as is The Beauty Parlour. Procope Coffee House, once a popular haunt on Victoria Street, is shortly to open in the same new development in Fendalton. Out at the Bush Inn Centre in Upper Riccarton, the owners of popular Thai fusion restaurant Spice Paragon have now opened a new sushi store – Hachi Hachi lets you pick your own ingredients for sushi made on the spot.

Out at The Tannery in Woolston, stage one is due to open very soon. Look for retailers like Fascino Shoes and Deval. We can’t wait to see this development unfold – we reckon it will become an essential after-dark stop with its tantalising range of restaurants and bars.

We’re loving the fact that the owners of much loved Portofino Christchurch have opened a new Italian eatery! You’ll find Venuti at 791 Colombo Street in the CBD.
