London Conchord are an acclaimed chamber music ensemble that are sometimes referred to as the “London Supergroup” in chamber music circles. They’re coming to New Zealand for the first time this spring to treat local classical aficionados to the rich sound that has won them a worldwide following. Stuffed to the gunnels with musical talent, the 8-piece ensemble combines strings, wind and piano to delightful purpose.
They’ll be treating Christchurch audiences to a programme of Mozart, Schoenberg, Poulenc and Debussy at Charles Luney Auditorium on the 11th of October in what is sure to be one of the highlights of the local classical music calendar of 2016.

World-class ivory tinkler Michael Houstoun, is known and loved by audiences nationwide, and this Friday, alongside Chamber Music New Zealand, he's set to wow Christchurch audiences with a unique programme of works inspired by Bach’s back catalogue. The piano did not exist during Bach’s lifetime – this is an exciting chance to hear how other composers have interpreted his music for the instrument, with the programme including piano transcriptions and homages to Bach by Rachmaninov, Shostakovich and Lizst.
The illuminating concert also features Douglas Lilburn’s Chaconne, and a brand new commission by New Zealand composer Ross Harris, Fugue for Piano. This is one Christchurch Arts Festival event not to be missed!
