Alternating between periods of short intense exercise and recovery, HIIT trains your body to adapt to greater stimulus. While working at a higher level of intensity than what it is accustomed to, the body uses its anaerobic system (without oxygen) to operate off of the energy stored in the muscles as its main source of energy.
