Maddison’s Restaurant’s inaugural seasonal Paddock to Plate dinner on July 14th is set to be a very special occasion for Christchurch foodies. The seven-course dinner showcases Canterbury's best produce, as well as offering palate cleansers and wine-matching from Pegasus Bay Wines, and is set to be an outstanding showcase for both the Maddison’s team and Canterbury’s fantastic produce, with every ingredient sourced as locally as possible.A representative from Pegasus Bay Winery will talk guests through the wine and why it’s so perfectly matched with the food, and chef Simo Abbari will also elaborate on the special dishes on offer during the evening. SPCA Animal Care Manager Rebecca Dobson triumphed at the Mashina Lounge in the recent (Thursday 14th April ) running of the Christchurch Casino ‘Noir Et Blanc’ Charity Poker Event, taking out the final hand of the evening’s charity tournament. In a 1 in 10 coincidence, after Rebecca won it was revealed she had taken the top prize for the charity closest to her heart – the Canterbury SPCA, whom she was representing at the event. The final two seats came down to Rebecca and Alex Skinner, who was playing on behalf of Surf Life Saving New Zealand, with Robyn Hanson taking an admirable third place on behalf of the Canterbury West Coast Air Rescue Trust.  The annual Charity Poker Event was held by Christchurch Casino, with $10,000 was up for grabs for 10 deserving charities thanks to the Christchurch Casino Charitable Trust. Revving up for another big year – maybe its biggest ever – The Christchurch Food Show is once again all set to have us salivating and rushing home eagerly to try new ideas in the kitchen. Iconic Australian foodie event the Night Noodle Markets are crossing the ditch this summer to set-up shop in Christchurch for the first time. For five nights in February, a range of high-quality food vendors will offer delicious, authentic Asian meals from a hawker-style market based in North Hagley Park. The inaugural New Zealand market will showcase over 20 local and international food stalls, including the renowned Melbourne-based Hoy Pinoy.  James Meehan, the chef behind Hoy Pinoy, will introduce Cantabrians to his signature Filipino barbecue skewers. There are two flavours available – chicken and pork belly –both served with rice and Achara (pickled papaya).
